About Port Royal

In the 17th century, Port Royal was famously known as the headquarters for swashbuckling pirates who ruled the Caribbean seas. Once dubbed “the wickedest city on earth,” this legendary town was home to notorious figures such as Sir Henry Morgan, Calico Jack, and Blackbeard Teach. Today, the echoes of that daring past serve as the perfect backdrop for the Port Royal Pirates Festival.

Reviving the spirit of adventure and celebration, the Port Royal Pirates Festival transforms this historic town into a vibrant, family-friendly spectacle. With pirate invasion re-enactments, cultural showcases, local cuisine, live entertainment, and community events, the festival brings history to life in a fun and unforgettable way.

Honoring Heritage

Inspired by pirate festivals from around the world, co-founders Jo-Anne Paxton and Peter Shoucair proposed the idea to the Jamaica Tourist Board with a vision to create a unique cultural experience that honors Port Royal’s colorful legacy. With the help of their strategic partners Jeny Jenny and Bobby Wong, the festival is now set to become an annual event that not only delights locals but also attracts visitors from across the globe, offering yet another exciting reason to explore the rich heritage of Kingston, Jamaica.
